Belfast is the capital city of Northern Ireland. It was granted city status in 1888 and is the largest city in the province, the second largest on the island of Ireland.
The name ‘Belfast’ is derived from the Irish Béal Feirste, which means “the mouth of the sandbars” or “the mouth of the fords”.
Because it’s the largest city in Northern Ireland, Belfast has a vast amount of ways to keep yourself entertained! Whether it’s shopping, sightseeing, clubbing or delving into the city’s divided history with a mural tour or a visit to the Ulster Museum.
